David Haynes is the
associate professor and director of Creative Writing at SMU. He
is also the author of four novels, short stories and creative
non-fiction. His creative work most often explores the
intersections of class, race, gender, and generational
difference. He believes that interesting fiction most often
occurs when writers trouble the artificial boundaries that are
erected to separate individuals and cultures. In addition to
workshops on fiction writing, he’s taught courses in
contemporary literature. His recently completed work is titled A
Star in the Face of the Sky.
